Tuchel Seeks Jude Bellingham's Passion So Long As The Three Lions' Ace Sets Aside Egotism Outside.

One snub did the trick. A second one and it could have seemed vindictive from Thomas Tuchel, who is extremely shrewd not to realize that winning the World Cup is probably going to require the involvement of the talented midfielder, even if it is equally Bellingham's responsibility to adapt to the strategic frameworks and squad hierarchies necessary with the national team now that he is back in the manager's supportive environment.

Tuchel seeks his aggressive mentality, his intensity, but it is a matter of harnessing it in the right way. Individual quality counts but the squad know from bitter experience that there is consequences when stardom takes over. Nevertheless, a statement has been delivered.

The midfielder was given food for thought after being left out of the recent team selection. He observed the national side book their place at next summer’s World Cup without him. He saw Morgan Rogers perform brilliantly as a counterpressing No 10. He listened as the coach talk about loving the group’s energy and principles. Naturally, Bellingham has responded in champion style, finding the back of the net for his club against their rivals and the Italian side. His selection was inevitable; leaving him out again would have left his World Cup hopes hanging by a thread.

The hope is that Tuchel will have a midfielder focused on pressuring the opposition rather than teammates. After all, from a tactical perspective, there is no value to starting a conflict with one of the best players in the world. The ideal scenario is that Bellingham’s time on the sidelines has made him realize that an international career is a valuable, uncertain thing. Tuchel, on his side, can now provide cover for the 22-year-old after showing that he is unafraid to take tough decisions.

“There is no problem with him, and no concern with the character,” Tuchel stated. “Bellingham just has the edge. You need that kind of fire to achieve greatness that he has. Everyone must help him and build an environment where he can use this edge in matches and towards the goals we are working towards as a team.”

The star took up most of the attention at the manager's selection reveal for the upcoming meaningless matches against one opponent and Albania. Who else? Indeed, how about another talent? This is another prodigious No 10 in need of love and guidance. Foden has been absent for England since spring and has struggled to hit the heights this year but Tuchel could not ignore the 25-year-old after his display in his club's victory against the German side this week.

The issue, however, is the best way to deploy the multiple playmakers at available. Rogers and Eze have earned their places and there will be compelling reasons to select Cole Palmer once he recovers from a ongoing injury. Is selecting multiple creators to the tournament be too many? Gareth Southgate never found the correct balance at the European Championship. He compromised by forcing Foden and Bellingham into the starting lineup, cramping the captain's influence in the process.

It is hard to see the current manager making the same mistake if it disrupts the team harmony. Space exists for a single playmaker, with speedy wingers on the flanks. Clarity is beneficial. Bellingham is in as a No 10. The new call-up, selected for the first occasion, is a No 8 and the recalled Adam Wharton will battle Elliot Anderson as a defensive midfielder. There will also be no position on the wing for the City star, who must play central. The coach prefers him close to the striker. “It is illogical to tell Phil: ‘You are needed on the pitch but no spot exists in your preferred role, could you fill in at the left side? Or the right wing?” he said. “Phil will play in the advanced midfield role, through the center. I've long had this vision about him for a long time. I think it matches his abilities best.”

He conceded there are occasions when Foden has appeared uncomfortable in an national jersey. “One senses as if, ‘Does he like it?’ And a player like him who has this childish joy to play football, then clearly an issue exists, be it the position, the setup, I don’t know.

“In my opinion he is also accustomed to representing Man City in a particular setup, to have a defined role. Believe he profits greatly from clear instructions. What is my position? Where exactly am I to receive the ball? When should I to push the tempo? What are my to defend?

The manager discussed Bellingham bursting through for easy finishes and Foden netting strikes from 18 yards. He said he has a longlist of many candidates. Several players, Myles Lewis-Skelly, the goalkeeper and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have been omitted. Nico O’Reilly is recognized for his fine form for City at left-back. Intrigue is high.

Leaving out of Ollie Watkins means there is no like-for-like alternative for Kane in the selection. Fascinatingly, he hinted at deploying the playmaker as a false 9 against Serbia or the other. Anthony Gordon, the United forward, the midfielder and Jarrod Bowen are other options if he be unavailable. With qualification secured, this is a moment for testing tactics.

Meanwhile, it is also a chance to get the understanding with his teammate flowing. It's surprising that one must look back to the latter setting up the captain to score in an international match against the Scots in September 2023 to find the sole instance in many appearances for England when the duo combined for a goal. The coach will be aware that Kane and Bellingham only exchanged the ball a single time during England’s draws with Denmark and Slovenia at the European Championship. The connection is lacking.

“At this point eventually it becomes the duty of the players,” he said. He does not shy away to speak frankly. Remains a feeling of the player being on trial. He may not be assured to start against the upcoming opponents. Tuchel desires Bellingham onside but he will be observing him carefully. Leave the ego outside. Doing so could turn a very strong squad into an superior one.
